
Please find below information on four upcoming author visits, programs, and services at Colchester-East Hants Public Library that we thought would be of interest to you and your students. As always, there is no cost to participate in any library activities.

Family Literacy Day – Saturday, January 25th 11:00am – 12:00pm. Drop in to help us celebrate Family Literacy Day as we welcome author Lindsay Gloade-Raining Bird. Lindsay will be reading from her first picture book, Snow Day, which follows an Indigenous family as they experience all of the delights of a winter’s day. Enjoy story time with Lindsay and stay for snacks and a snow-themed craft!

Virtual Author Reading Series: We will continue to hold our virtual author series via Zoom on the 4th Thursday of the month from 10:00am – 11:00am. We are delighted to announce our authors for Winter/Spring 2025 (posters attached):

February 27 – Ekiuwa Aire is a Nigerian-Canadian cultural connector who is passionate about sharing positive stories on African history with children. Her award-winning books, like Idia of the Benin Kingdom and Imhotep of Ancient Kemet, tell empowering stories that put ancient Africans in the spotlight.

March 27 – J. Torres is a Filipino Canadian comic book writer and graphic novelist. He is known for titles such as Stealing Home, Planet Hockey and DC comics Teen Titans Go series. His latest book is Brobots, illustrated by Sean Dove.

April 24 – Dan Bar-el is a children’s author, educator and storyteller. His books include award-winning chapter books, picture books, and graphic novels. His latest series is The Very, Very Far North.

May 22 - Linda Trinh is the author of the award-winning kids’ series The Nguyen Kids. The title The Secret of the Jade Bangle co-won the Manitoba Book Award for best new first book!

[email protected] with your name, grade, school, and class size. You can sign up for one author reading, or the entire series! We will send reminder emails ahead of each author reading, so it’s one less thing to keep track of during the school year.

The Hackmatack Reading Club registration opens January 16th and runs until April. The children are invited to read a special selection of books and vote for their favourite to win! It is available in both English & French for ages 8-11. Contact your library for more details.
